Case
Richard Branson and the Virgin Group
Virgin began in 1970 when Richard Branson and Nik Powell started a mail-order record business; the first record shop opened in 1971, Virgin Records launched in 1973, Virgin Atlantic in 1984 and Virgin Galactic in 2004 (Virgin.com), and the group now lists more than 40 companies in 35 countries. Branson told the BBC in 2014 that he is a good entrepreneur but not necessarily a good manager, and that someone else should run a business day to day once it is set up. Illustrates leadership versus management.
